Background of the Study
The integration of educational technology into higher learning environments has transformed instructional methods and communication practices. In Nigerian universities, online lectures have become a common medium for academic discourse, where the use of technology influences syntactic structures. This study examines how educational technology affects the syntax of online lectures, focusing on sentence complexity, clause coordination, and the use of digital communication markers. The adoption of virtual platforms often necessitates adaptations in language use, as lecturers seek to engage remote learners effectively (Olawale, 2023). These syntactic adjustments may include the simplification of sentence structures to accommodate asynchronous learning and the incorporation of interactive elements such as digital prompts and hyperlinks. The study explores the extent to which technological mediation alters traditional academic syntax and its impact on student comprehension and engagement. By analyzing lecture transcripts and digital content, the research aims to identify systematic syntactic shifts that occur in online educational settings. This investigation will contribute to the broader discourse on technology-enhanced learning and inform the design of more effective online instructional strategies (Olawale, 2023; Ibid, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
There is a lack of comprehensive research on how educational technology influences syntactic practices in Nigerian online university lectures. Although online teaching platforms are widely used, little is known about how these digital environments affect sentence structure and overall language clarity. The absence of such studies hampers the ability to develop effective online pedagogical practices that maximize student understanding. Without an in-depth examination of syntactic adaptations in digital lectures, educators may continue to rely on traditional language structures that do not fully leverage the benefits of technology. This study seeks to fill this gap by analyzing the syntactic features of online lectures and assessing their impact on educational outcomes (Olawale, 2023; Ibid, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To analyze syntactic structures in online university lectures.

  2. To assess the impact of educational technology on these structures.

  3. To recommend improvements for online academic communication.

Research Questions

  1. What syntactic features characterize online university lectures?

  2. How does educational technology influence these features?

  3. What strategies can enhance syntactic clarity in digital lectures?

Significance of the Study
This study provides valuable insights into the intersection of technology and language in education. The findings will help educators and instructional designers develop more effective online lecture practices that enhance student comprehension and engagement. By clarifying the syntactic impacts of digital media, the research supports the evolution of educational technology in Nigerian higher education (Olawale, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to analyzing syntactic structures in Nigerian online university lectures and does not extend to other educational formats.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Syntax: The set of rules governing sentence structure.

  2. Educational Technology: Digital tools used to facilitate learning.

  3. Online University Lectures: Academic lectures delivered via digital platforms.
